CodeSpark Academy

Spring of 2020 I worked at CodeSpark, an educational games startup, as a gameplay prototyper. My biggest task was designing and testing a hint system for the game’s puzzles. I also helped redesign some puzzles, and did various engineering tasks, such as fixing bugs and implementing features that were already mostly supported on the backend. For instance, in the image below on the right, letting players define the “rotate” behavior on certain objects in the game maker mode, and allowing birds to fly (without the assistance of a jetpack).

Working at CodeSpark was my first time having to integrate myself into a large, unfamiliar codebase, and it was definitely a challenge. But once I learned how it was structured and what certain things did, it was very cool to get to to leverage the infrastructure built by my teammates.
